Abstract

Reading is one of the four skills goals in learning Arabic. Reading skills are an ideal goal for Arabic learners who are not supported by adequate situations and conditions. One manifestation of Arabic language skills is being able to read and understand Arabic texts, whether modern or classical. Among the classic texts that are widely studied in Indonesia are books written by traditional ulama' which contain Islamic teachings. Classical books have different characteristics from modern Arabic texts so that it is difficult to study them. For this reason, interest in studying classical books began to decrease. This must be overcome because the classical books are the legacy of the salafushalih scholars who are the reference sources for Muslims. For this reason, it is necessary to strive for easier ways to be able to read and understand so that they are maintained. This research was conducted at the al-Halimy Special Boarding School to find out how the techniques applied in learning qira'ah in understanding the classical books were applied. After that, it is hoped that there will be an effective technique that can be developed by Arabic language observers, especially qira'ah learning. The theory used to analyze this research is learning theory. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with this approach the author tries to describe all the realities found in the field in the form of behavior, activities, circumstances, status and phenomena that occur in certain situations. Meanwhile, to get research data, the writer uses observation, interview and documentation techniques. To analyze the data the author uses an inductive analysis method where the data obtained are collected and recorded for analysis and then general conclusions are drawn. From this study, it was found that the qira'ah learning technique in understanding classical books at the al-Halimy Special Boarding School applied a convergence technique that combines teacher centered, student centered and book centered. However, in the learning process, teacher centered is played more. While the classical book learning method still uses the traditional way, namely wetonan with the halaqah system in addition to the discussion method. The contribution that can be utilized from this research is that mastery of Arabic text reading skills can be achieved when mastering two things, first, mastery of grammar, and second, mastery of vocabulary accompanied by intense practice. From that, classical book observers can develop these two things for students to be able to read Arabic texts.
